Clean Water To Qianha Village In Yunnan Province
Over the past two years, four large water supply holding wells have been built and nearly 5km of plastic piping has been laid between the mountain stream water source and Nanluohe and Qianha villages. Students from Concordia International School Shanghai (CISS) dug trenches, buried exposed piping, and assembled water meters to monitor each household’s use of their own water supply. Bringing water to these villages has saved four hours of hard labor each morning for the women who previously had to walk two hours each way to gather water for their families. That fresh water has also made it possible to bathe daily rather than weekly as previously was the case, and greatly increased the overall level of hygiene in the area.
Qianha Water Project Service Learning Trip - September 2006: CISS students working hard to dig trenches where the black piping will be protected so that the water that is divided out for each household is not compromised. Spigots outside each house are monitored by the green water meter for record of individual household use.
